Bokaro : DPS Bokaro organised the 33rd Annual Sports Day – SAMAGAM on wednesday thriving the theme ‘Samriddha Rashtra Nirman ka sammilit prayas’. Sutlej House got first position with 1139 points followed by Ganga House with 1125 points whereas Chenab House secured the third position with 1115 points.

Kuldeep Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner, Bokaro, was the Chief Guest of the occasion. On this special day, the school also witnessed the dignified presence of Principals from various schools of Bokaro.

The mega sports event started with an impeccable ‘March Past’ by the six houses Sutlej, Chenab, Jamuna, Jhelum, Raavi and Ganga of the school positioned according to their previous year ranking.  This was followed by a magnificent field display of ‘Mass Drill’ presented by the students from classes IV & V.  There was a beautiful dance performance on the theme ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ by the students of Deepansh Shiksha Kendra.

A plethora of events were organised including 100m race, 200m race, 4x100m relay for both the junior/senior category both for boys and girls.

The most exciting event of the day was under 19 4x400m relay boys. A sheer display of dedication and fitness was served.

While addressing the students the Chief Guest emphasized on the need of sports in developing concentration, personality and skills which further enhance the intelligence quotient. Appreciating the performances of students, he said that the reputation of DPS Bokaro in terms of academic excellence is well known.

The talent of its children in sports and arts is also commendable. The students here are increasing the pride of the state and the nation.

Referring to Swami Vivekananda’s quote ‘A healthy mind resides in a healthy body’, he explained the importance of sports. Sharing his school experiences, Chaudhary said that in the present education system, the pressure to score marks, children’s participation in sports and cultural activities is important. Indeed, sports help in building a better personality and building a prosperous nation-building is possible only through better citizens. Thereafter the Chief Guest officially announced the sports day ‘Open’ with the release of tricolour balloons.

Dr. A. S. Gangwar, Principal, DPS Bokaro, updated the gathering with the recent awards conferred to the school which he said is due to the joint effort and good wishes of the stakeholders. “To remain on the top one has to work hard with sincerity and dedication on a regular basis”, he added.

Dr. Gangwar concluded the annual sports conferring the responsibility of holistic development by handing over the schools flag to Brajesh Kumar. The event came to end by displaying gratitude and honour towards our country with a melodious national anthem sung in unison.
