ANS: Tragic events unfolded in Patna, Bihar, on Thursday as Vijay Kumar Singh, a prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and General Secretary of Jahanabad, lost his life due to injuries sustained during a clash with the police.
The incident occurred at Dakbanglow Chowk in Patna, where a police lathi charge resulted in Singh being severely injured. Eyewitnesses reported that Singh was swiftly taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
The clash between the BJP leaders and the police stemmed from ongoing concerns regarding youth employment and teachers’ issues.
The BJP had announced a march to Vidhansabha to draw attention to these matters.
The march, which commenced at around 12:30 PM from Gandhi Maidan, was intended to reach Dak Bungalow Chowk. However, the police intervened and halted the BJP leaders and workers at that location.
Initially, minor altercations occurred between the BJP leaders and the police, but tensions escalated, leading to a lathi charge. Eyewitnesses said that security personnel used water cannons and open lathi charges to disperse BJP workers.
BJP representatives later alleged that excessive force was used by the police at Dak Bungalow Chowk, resulting in Vijay Kumar Singh sustaining fatal injuries. Singh was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead upon his arrival.
The local administration had assured the public of adequate security measures following the announcement of the march. Bihar police, in collaboration with the State Armed Police (SAP), were deployed to prevent the BJP leaders from advancing.
